Message I was looking into getting some wheels chromed, and was informed by a reputable national shop that there are only a handful of places that can do actual chrome-plating. Chromium is extremely toxic, and places that do chrome plating need to put up a $250k bond with the EPA to prove that they can filter the stuff out of their process so it doesn't get into groundwater, etc.

This is what I was told. Not sure if it's true, but it makes sense given that even national wheel repair places send their wheels out to get chromed, and why chrome refinishing costs 2-3x more than regular repainting.

There are a number of places that sell "almost chrome" paints and powders for coating. They're not real chrome, but almost as shiny and reflective.

:I wanted to get some stuff chrome powder coated instead of polished because I can't stand how fast polished aluminum pits. My local guy says there is no such thing. After seeing a post last week of that lower radiator pipe looking pretty chrome to me is he blowing smoke up my A@@ or what?
